Soul Haus: Attire and Accoutrement has been a well-established, Denver icon since it opened its doors in 1999. Originally one of Denver's first fashion houses to offer small-tag, Denver-made and independant labels (Read: House of Soul) - the mission of Soul Haus has stayed the same: do business honestly and ethically, while serving our community.
Soul Haus donates a portion of every sale to regional charities -and has- since our Grand Opening all those many years ago. Located in the EZE Mop Shopping District at 1225 East 17th Avenue, in the Historic Uptown neighborhood in the heart of Denver, this family-owned and operated store carries hand-selected clothing for modern men and women, as well as unique jewelry, wallets, hats, watches and vintage accoutrement and décor. Right next door, we also offer up our pretty-in-pink Paperie, Peppermint, while over on the alt-art edge of the 13th Avenue/Capitol Hill neighborhood is Pandora on the Hill.
"Real, hardworking, and deeply loyal to the people they love and the city they inhabit, Stephanie Shearer and Chris Bacorn are pillars in the Denver community," writes Becky H. in the 12 Questions Blog. "And as if it’s not enough that they provide the city with the best selection of glitter and gifts, they genuinely love Denver and are proud of their role as entrepreneurs. They give back to Denver as much as they can by supporting local artists, local business, and local charities."
We are honored to have received numerous accolades and awards from a variety of notable entities such as Entrepreneur Magazine, Lonely Planet, Zagat, Westword, 5280 Magazine, OutFront Colorado and even a 2014 Mayor's Design Award for the restoration of our historic EZE MOP building.
But, perhaps our biggest acomplishment has been our over-twelve staffers who have gone on to open their own businesses, making Soul Haus a sort of 'entrepreneur incubator' of sorts. In Westword's Best of Denver 2014, we were recognized as Denver's Best Small-Business Empire, with Westword adding, "The hip boutiques that now proliferate on South Broadway and all over town clearly learned a few lessons from Stephanie Shearer and Chris Bacorn, who own the Capitol Hill boutique Pandora on the Hill that opened an incredible twenty years ago, and its man-centric companion, Soul Haus, five years after that."
Besides "Best Small-Business Empire", Bacorn and Shearer were also described by Westword as "an inner-city booster couple", and proudly re-started the Uptown on the Hill Neighborhood Organization, volunteer to develop an Urban Green Belt along the 17th Avenue corridor, and completed the certifiaction process with Certifiably Green Denver, registering all three of their boutiques as one of the few earth-friendly and certified green retail stores in all of Denver.
"It’s not just because it’s good business, or hip or the cool thing to do, " says Shearer, "it’s just simply HOW we do."
"But at the end of the day, it all about our customers," adds Bacorn. "We would never be so bold like the stereotypical 'boutique' and tell them how to dress or who to be --our customers know who they are and what they want---an alternative to the Big Box Mall.
We absolutely have the coolest customers in town."
